Satellite Defined

"A device that orbits the earth and is used to receive and transmit signals. Transponders within the satellite receive and send signals back to earth, where they are received by a dish-shaped "earth station". The signals are then transmitted via phone lines, cable or microwave to the receiver device, e.g. a TV."
