"A user's reference to a document on the World-Wide Web or other hypermedia system, usually in the form of a URL and a title or comment string. In the context of an online course, a bookmark is a mechanism that allows a learner to mark their progress through course materials, so that s/he may interrupt a course, and resume studies at that point later."
